✈️ U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) F-16 fighter jets conducted an unusual independent training

exercise over the Yellow Sea near China’s Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).

According to South Korean media outlets including The Chosun Ilbo, around 10 USFK F-16 fighter jets carried out training on February 18 in airspace close to China’s ADIZ over the Yellow Sea. In response, China scrambled its own

fighter aircraft, resulting in a temporary standoff between U.S. and Chinese forces, the report said ⚠️.

📰 The newspaper described the situation as one in which “military forces from both sides briefly confronted each other.”

🇰🇷 The South Korean Air Force did not participate in the exercise. It is considered highly unusual for USFK fighter jets to conduct independent training near China’s ADIZ, and the move is believed to have been intended as a show of deterrence toward China.

🛫 The F-16s departed from Osan Air Base in Gyeonggi Province, south of Seoul, and approached the edge of China’s ADIZ over the Yellow Sea. China responded
